As COVID-19 takes its toll on the global economy, China and the United States should stop attempts at decoupling and advance the relationship through cooperation, and live up to their responsibility for the world, said Wang.
While expanding domestic demand was stressed, it would be a mistake to consider that China will retreat from the global economy. Rather, China will utilize domestic and international resources more efficiently, ensuring robust and sustainable development.
The Chinese Consulate-General in Houston was the first consulate-general opened by China in the United States after the establishment of the diplomatic ties, and it was always an important symbol of China-U.S. friendship, Wang said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.
In recent years, for example, Washington has withdrawn from the Paris Agreement, UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Council, and the Global Compact for Migration.
Though impacted by the novel coronavirus in Egypt, Beshr and his colleagues have been proceeding with their work. At the end of June, Beshr's team successfully signed a bonded warehouse lease agreement with a Chinese textile company.
In most cases, the so-called U.S. national security concerns are ordinary economic or trade disputes which can be reasonably solved through bilateral or multilateral negotiations. However, Washington is now obsessed with flexing its muscles, regardless of hurting partnerships or violating market principles and international norms.
Washington has never stopped abusing national and political power to repress law-abiding Chinese tech companies. Although Washington has failed to give any credible evidence to support its claim that Huawei poses a security threat, it has spent months piling pressure on other countries to exclude the Chinese tech giant from their 5G networks. More recently, the White House threatened to ban outright TikTok, a hugely popular video-sharing app worldwide.
"The funding will be cancelled should we fail to complete these projects on time for whatever reason. We do not want this to happen as these are important projects that will have a positive impact on our people and country," Manning said.
Concrete steps must be taken by the United States to bring its relations with China back on track.
In the interview, Wang refuted a series of recent U.S. moves hurting bilateral ties, including U.S. closing the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, launching global campaign against Chinese companies, making fierce attacks on the Communist Party of China and interfering into China's internal affairs.
Since violent protests and riots rocked Hong Kong last year, the United States has stirred up troubles in the region, attempting to contain China with a raft of bills and executive orders targeting Hong Kong under the pretext of human rights, democracy and autonomy.
